What is the Barton Award?
The Barton Award is a financial support package that could reduce your child’s school fees by up to 50%. It exists for one simple reason: to make an FSM education possible for families who might not have considered an independent school before.
If your child is currently in Year 6 or above at any school – state or independent – and you think FSM could be the right fit, this award is worth exploring.
Who is it for?
This award is for children who have the drive, attitude and potential to thrive at FSM – but whose family finances would otherwise make joining difficult.
You don’t need a particular background. You don’t need to have considered a private school before. If your child is curious, motivated and ready for a challenge, we’d love to hear from you.
What does it actually mean in practice?
- Up to 50% reduction in tuition fees – guaranteed until the end of Year 11, so there are no surprises year to year.
- The chance to also apply for a scholarship – which can add a further fee reduction on top, based on talent in areas like sport, music, art or academics.
- Stability – once awarded, the support stays in place for your child’s entire time at FSM. You won’t need to reapply each year.

The award is named in honour of Mr and Mrs Barton, long-standing supporters of FSM who believed that a great education should be available to more children. Their generosity made this award possible.
