We are proud to be a mixed ability school and believe that welcoming children with a range of abilities and talents makes for a rich and diverse learning community. We do not therefore have a formal entrance examination. Instead we will invite your child along for a taster day (and night if they will be boarding with us) which gives them the chance to experience a full day as a member of FSM.
During the day, your child will be given some simple exercises to do, just to assess their current level and ensure that they will be able to cope with the academic curriculum.
They will also meet their future classmates, enabling them to begin to make friends even before they officially start at the school. If your child requires additional learning support, we will also set up a special meeting with our SENCo leader to ensure that everything is in place before they start.
To apply to the school, you just need to register online and pay a registration fee. Once we have confirmed that we have a place available in the right year, you can secure your child’s place with a deposit and we will then arrange a taster day.
In addition to the open days we hold throughout the year, we are always happy to arrange a private visit during a normal working day, which is an excellent way to see the school in full swing. On these visits you will be given a tour of the facilities, meet some pupils in your child’s year, and finish with a chat and cup of tea with the Headmaster.
We aim to make the admissions process and your child’s transition to FSM as smooth as possible. We are used to having children coming to us from state primaries and pre-prep schools all over the UK, as well as from overseas schools and a variety of cultures, so we are very experienced in helping children to settle in quickly and happily.
We offer a subsidised bus service for children who will be attending School on a daily basis. We have a fleet of buses that head out in all directions from the School every morning and evening. These include routes from:
- across the New Forest
- from Salisbury
- from Shaftesbury
- from Bournemouth / Ringwood direction.
All our drivers are all DBS checked. Most of the drivers also do the same routes daily, and have other roles within the School, so your child/ren will get to know them well.
However, we have a lot of flexibility and if your route isn’t listed above, please contact us and we can let you know if your request can be accommodated.
