Yesterday, May 7th, 2024, will forever be etched in the memories of our Year 7 pupils as they embarked on a spectacular maritime adventure aboard the iconic Jolie Brise. This unique experience was made possible through the wonderful collaboration between our school and the seasoned crew of the Jolie Brise, to whom we are immensely thankful.
From the early hours of the morning, excitement was palpable as the students arrived at the dock, eager for the day ahead. The Jolie Brise, with its majestic sails and storied history, awaited them, ready to impart lessons of the sea.
All Aboud the Jolie Brise
The adventure began the moment they stepped aboard. The pupils were not just passengers but became part of the crew for the day. They learned to hoist sails and tie sailor’s knots, feeling the ship’s sturdy deck beneath their feet as they took turns steering through the open waters. The thrill of climbing up to the crow’s nest was a definite highlight, offering them a bird’s-eye view of the vast ocean and teaching them about navigation and ship handling.
Maritime Lessons
One of the most valuable lessons they learned was reading the maritime conditions—an essential skill for any sailor. This practical, hands-on approach not only educated them about sailing but also about teamwork, leadership, and resilience.
The smiles on their faces, constant throughout the day, grew even wider as the sun began to set, painting the sky with hues of orange and pink, signalling a perfect end to an extraordinary day.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone involved in making this day possible, especially the crew of the Jolie Brise and the staff at Dauntsey’s School. It was indeed a once-in-a-lifetime experience that our pupils will cherish forever. Here’s to many more adventures!
