Artful Forager
Last week, our talented Year 10 GCSE artists wrapped up in wellies and coats and set off to Martin for a creative outdoor adventure — an en plein air painting workshop set against the stunning backdrop of the countryside.
The three-hour session was led by none other than The Artful Forager, a gifted local artist known for his expressive landscape work. Under his expert guidance, students were introduced to a range of acrylic techniques using a variety of brushes and palette knives.
Getting stuck in straight away, pupils squeezed paint directly onto their canvases and experimented with scumbling — all while learning the importance of not over-blending. It was a hands-on experience that encouraged boldness, experimentation, and a fresh approach to landscape painting.
Out in the fresh air, students also explored the concepts of perspective and light, taking full advantage of the natural setting. Luckily, the weather was mostly kind, with only a few gusts of wind and the occasional drop of rain to contend with.
Despite a few moments of self-doubt (a normal part of the artistic process!), the group pushed through and came away with a fantastic mix of new skills, confidence, and some truly impressive landscape paintings.
