Micro-Adventures and Mighty Memories: Year 6 Take on White Horse Hill!
Recently, our Year 6s went on an amazing Micro-adventure—an experience packed with challenge, excitement, and plenty of muddy boots! The journey began with a trek up the legendary White Horse Hill at Westbury, where determination met steep slopes and sweeping views. From there, the adventure didn’t stop. That evening, the group returned to school for a night of real camping under the stars—right here on our Moor!
From teamwork on the trail to toasting marshmallows by the fire, it was a whirlwind of unforgettable moments. But don’t just take our word for it, read on to hear from the adventurers themselves! Below are two brilliant write-ups by our Year 6 pupils, capturing the highs, the challenges, and the joy of their Micro-adventure.
Micro-Adventure: Pupil’s Stories

This Term in Geography, we have been learning about ‘Microadventures’. In half term, some people did their homework, which was to take part in a microadventure at home with family and friends. As a class, we went on a microadventure of our own to the Westbury White Horse on Thursday,y the 5th of June.
On Tuesday, we had a practice of cycling on the school fields in our Geography lesson. We did jumps, an obstacle course and rode through the woods. On Thursday in tutor time, we learnt some bike maintenance like taking the front wheel off to fix a puncture and what to do if our chain came off.
After break, we hopped on the bus to Westbury White Horse with the teachers (Mr Humphreys, Mr Scott and Miss North). We arrived there and ate our packed lunch. Then we got on are bikes and set off on the bridleway.
After biking, we climbed up the hill and saw the white horse up close and the minibus a long way away! At the top, we played with bubbles, skipping ropes, a vortex, also football and boules.
Then we got to a steep part of the hill, and most people went sliding down. At first, I didn’t want to go down, but then I did because Boadi said she would be at the bottom. I was pleased I did because it was really fun, but I got really wet. Then we carried on walking down the hill, and we cycled to the bus and drove back to FSM.
When we got back, we changed into dry clothes, and most people went to clubs, but people who didn’t help Mr Humphreys. When clubs had ended, we did a lucky dip to find out who was in our tarp shelters. I had Boadi, Isla and Emilia .
We put up are tarps and shelters, then we ate pizza and chips. We played different games on the top moor. Emilia, Phoebe and I lit the fire and the whole class toasted giant marshmallows.
To finish the night, we did a BGT (Top Moor’s Got Talent) type performance. Then we went to bed far too late (as all good microadventures should do) and got up far too early. We all had Boarders’ Breakfast in the FOSM, and it was croissants. It was all lots of fun.

For the summer term, our Geography topic was microadventures. A micro-adventures are small adventures that anyone can do, such as a camping trip in your back garden. At school, the Mighty 6DH did our own microadventure to the Westbury white horse.
First, on Tuesday, we did some biking around the school with a slalom race and some jumps. On Thursday, we learnt some bike maintenance from Mr Humphreys, like how to put a chain on and how to repair a puncture. Later, we got on the bus to the white horse. When we arrived, we rode our bikes to a footpath where we walked up to the white horse and saw some amazing views!
At the top, we played lots of games like duck, duck, goose, football, boules, blew some bubbles, did some rope skipping, and threw a vortex. On the walk down the hill, we did some cheese rolling without the cheese! After that, we walked down to the bikes and rode them back to the bus. When we arrived back at school, we went up to the top moor to set up the tarp shelters. When they were set up, we got pizza with chips and Tango. Then we played on the top moor for a while until we started a fire and roasted giant marshmallows! After the marshmallows, we went back to our tarps to create a team skit and perform it to the rest of the class. At the end, we went to bed at about 9:30 and got to sleep at about 12:00, then woke up at about 6:00am. In the morning, we had croissants for breakfast!!!
