We are privileged to have such a creative bunch of children who embrace innovative and crazy ideas but also feel free to follow their own path. We offer an accredited PSB course for our young people in Year 7 and 8 who show an interest and enthusiasm for photography. ‘WOT???, real cameras?’ I hear you cry and it is true that fewer and fewer families have cameras in the house but it is amazing to give the children these ‘antiquated’ tools and see what they can do with them.
As is topical, photography gives children a chance to slow down, ‘be in the moment’ and relate to the world around them. It is amazing what they notice when they have a camera in their hands. Once they realise they can create images with a simple knowledge of aperture and shutter speed, they are up and away.
Our first ‘field trip’ focused (ha ha) on texture, line and patterns but such were the children’s interests that they were quickly experimenting with shutter speed, portraiture, ICM (Intentional Camera Movement) and macro. Our visits to features in the Dorset countryside gave them scope for their experimentation and the afternoon sped by. Watch this space for a gallery of their beautiful photographs to come.
In the meantime, you can see a few photos of them enjoying their day below!
