Where Pupils Go - Forres Sandle Manor

Where Pupils Go

We see our role as working in partnership with parents to find the right senior school for their child. With a dizzying array of options – boarding or day school, single-sex or co-educational, large or small, urban or rural, near home or further afield, traditional or progressive, academically rigorous or more gentle – we can help parents to narrow down the options. Every school has a different ethos and emphasis and, by combining our knowledge of a child’s ability and their parents’ innate understanding of them, we can together reach a shortlist of senior schools to consider.

We like to start the conversation early – in year 5 – with the first of several meetings between parents and the Deputy Head (Academic). Some parents may have had their child’s name down for a certain school since birth; others may be completely new to the UK senior school system and need help navigating it. Either way, we encourage them to go and visit a range of schools – on personal visits rather than Open Days if possible – to get a real feel for which establishment would be the best fit for their child.

Built up over long experience, we have excellent relationships with a wide range of schools and we know the type of children that tend to do best in different styles of school. We are very happy to give parents all the advice and support they need during this period, while also recognising that the ultimate decision will be theirs.

Of course the other important part of our role is to prepare your children as well as we possibly can for the rigours of the Common Entrance examinations which lie ahead. We aim to do this without hothousing them or taking away from their natural love of learning. We ensure that thorough preparation and development of all-important exam technique is balanced with opportunities for children to spread their wings through sport, creative pursuits and relaxation.
